I fell down a set of stairs and fell on my knee. How much damage do you think was done?
watermelon. asked:
I am a paramedic student and was practicing a heavy lift (stair chair, 190 lbs) and on my way down the stairs I lost my balance and bailed. I kind of slid forwards down a stair or two directly on my knee, and now it hurts. Mostly the inner knee, and when I stand/walk it kind of feels like the cap of my knee is twisted outward (even though it isn't).

I am getting nervous because my lift test is in 3 days, what if my knee still hurts? I may fail out of the program because of this. What can I do to make it feel better (other than ice or advil)?

see a Dr. and get it looked at – if you have injured it and shouldn't be lifting you may be able to get a note from Dr. that will let you take lift test at later date.

What you should do is rap it but leave air to it. This way you can not bend the knee. Sounds like you bruised your knee cap or patella, and possibly dislocated it. I am in the fire department as well, and I know how much this means to you. Try not to walk on it, I know it's hard but if you did some damage to it you could further make more problems then you need. Make an appt with the doctor so they can take ex-rays or an MRI.
